What Strategy Actually Is

Strategy isn’t a buzzword, a PowerPoint slide, or an inspirational poster in a conference room. By definition, it’s “a careful plan or method for achieving a particular goal over time” but in practice, it’s the art of deciding what matters, what doesn’t, and how you’ll win.

It’s how organizations create value for customers, employees, and partners — and how leaders navigate noisy markets, shifting priorities, tight resources, and high expectations. Strategy is the work that determines whether your next move is progress… or just motion.

In other words: strategy is the conversation that shapes everything else. So why don’t more people talk about it openly?

Why We're Focused on Strategy

Because strategy is misunderstood, misused, and too often treated like an exclusive club.
Because teams spin on tactics without clarity.
Because companies love activity but rarely measure impact.
And because when strategy is done well, businesses grow smarter, leaders make better decisions, and people stop doing work no one can justify.

We built She Speaks Strategy to make strategy a conversation, not a mystery. We talk with anyone ready to dig into the real work: founders, executives, operators, builders, skeptics, and the accidental strategists who end up designing the future whether they planned to or not.

About the Name

Yes, it’s called She Speaks Strategy.
No, it’s not a podcast “for women only.”
The title is the misnomer we’re here to dismantle.

Women do speak strategy and exceptionally well. They just haven’t always been heard. Today, women hold only 30.6% of global leadership roles, despite being nearly half the workforce. In strategic leadership specifically, unconscious bias still creates barriers, double standards, and broken career pathways.

Our stance is simple: strategy is everyone’s conversation. The mic is open. The work matters. Let’s get to it.

Kathleen Martin is a channel strategist and community architect who has built a career turning complex go-to-market problems into clear, actionable strategies that drive real revenue impact. With experience leading community growth, channel programs, and GTM acceleration for organizations like JS Group, Data2Go Wireless, CompTIA, and Marketing by the Bite, she’s known for cutting through noise, aligning teams, and creating programs that actually deliver results, not just activity.

Her work sits at the intersection of strategy, community, and revenue, making her uniquely suited to guide the conversations at She Speaks Strategy. Kathleen brings the perspective of someone who has spent decades inside the meetings where strategy is made, reshaped, and sometimes rescued. She knows the difference between theory and execution, between motion and momentum—and she brings that clarity to every episode. Through her lens, the podcast challenges the outdated belief that women don’t speak strategy by showcasing what happens when they absolutely do.

Alexandra Courson, MBA, is a revenue and go-to-market strategist known for simplifying the complex and helping SaaS and technology companies enter the right markets with precision. As the founder of CyberSells and a seasoned leader across sales, channel development, branding, and GTM execution, she’s built and rebuilt revenue engines for organizations ranging from MSP360 and Veriato to Finity Creative Group. Alex has led high-performing teams, shaped channel programs, and crafted messaging and sales systems that scale and are always grounded in how people actually buy and how companies truly grow.

Her mix of strategic clarity, sales psychology, and creative thinking makes her a natural force behind She Speaks Strategy. Alex has spent her career sitting at the crossroads of product, brand, sales, and market fit: seeing the moves companies should make long before they do. She brings that instinct and experience to the podcast, cutting through jargon and offering the kind of practical, human-centered strategy that turns ideas into revenue. In every conversation, she helps dismantle the myth that women don’t speak strategy by doing exactly that—fluently, boldly, and with unmistakable impact.
